14th July 2001, Saturday

As I type, I am still amazed by the incidents of today.  I called Pablo the day before and he recognised me, which spared the unnecessary ‘I- was- the- girl- who- called- you- last –time- remember?’ talk.

Well… part of the conversation went like this:

Mag: Hello Pablo?

Pablo: Si…

M: I’m Magdalene, do you remember?

P: Yeah, It’s great to hear from you again!

M: Welcome to Singapore!

P: Oh it’s good to be back here.

M: I was wondering if we could meet tomorrow?

P: Oh about 8… 9… I don’t know.

M: Great… So I’ll see you tomorrow?

P: Yeah… sorry my English is not so good.

M: No you’re doing great… you’re progressing well…

P: Improving?

M: Yeah… don’t worry… it’s good.

P: (laughs)

M: So I’ll see you tomorrow all right?

P: Yeah, see you tomorrow!

M: bye!

P: Bye!

And I hung up, quite disbelievingly… that I’ve managed to catch him on the phone de nuevo.

So the next day, May and I went to the hotel and waited and waited and waited.  I then saw a tall guy flashing past and…

Mag: Caleb!

Caleb: (Spins around) Hey… how are you?

M: Do you remember us?

C: Yeah… you guys are early… (Smiles devastatingly)

He signed our ‘Little Piece of Heaven’ and I snapped a few pics of him.  We were also amused at the sight of his dearest companion- the stuffed giraffe, which was dangling by his bag.  Caleb then grinned when we told him that we were going to root for them at the Radio Music Awards and left with his giraffe for breakfast.

Then… there was that distressing episode soon after when a staff of the hotel told us we couldn’t do that anymore, as we would disturb their peace.  I was really disappointed; as I had told Pablo we would be meeting.  Hence, I called our dear friend Abel.

I know you would be interested in the conversation, so here goes:

Mag: Hello Abel?

Abel: (shouts from afar) Yes!  Who are you?

M: We are your fans…

A: Yeah, I’ll be down in 10 minutes!

M: But you see… (Was attempting to explain the situation)

A: Sweetie, I would love to talk to you but I’m really late so I’ll meet you downstairs in 10 minutes if you’re there bye!  (All in one breath.)

So it was quite futile as you can see.

Anyway, it was a rather unsatisfactory morning with luck against us, but we still had the Radio Music Awards!

The crowd was crazy, they started queuing up for the event since 10 am when the blinking thing was to start at 7.30 pm.  By the time I got there, the line was appalling and I waited miserably with thoughts of not being able to see the guys up close.  We then got undesirable seats- even as my camera zoomed in, I still couldn’t take good close-up pics.

So when the event started and MDO turned out to be the first performers (they did Just A Little Piece of Heaven), I ran forward to the stage and managed quite a few brilliant photos. Ha Ha!

But I really wanted to see Pablo… so when I caught sight of MDO sitting at the corner of the stage with other stars, I flew forward again and waved to catch his eye.  He was so sweet and he posed for my cam and even nudged dear Abel over so that I could get them both.  You will see that shot in the pics section- the one with both of them huddled together.) Something at the moment then possessed me to blow him a kiss and he returned mine with three of his!!!  How about that!

Later in the awards show, I was just too depressed being cooped up in my seat when the guys were just there- right there.  Hence I decided to permanently position myself right under MDO.  The security guard however, halted me as I did not have a standing ticket.  But after a while of him watching me lurk around with mournful eyes, he let me in and I was like right beneath the stage where the guys were sitting and having their drinks.  I waved at Abel, who smiled and grinned at Caleb, (He is such a sweetheart) who beamed and gave me a wave and I took more close- up pics.

It was almost the end of the show when the stars gathered together on stage otra vez.  I was stuck in the middle of thousands of screaming girls and was desperately trying to squeeze my way out to a more prominent position whereby the guys could catch me.  But Pablo spotted me… I was jumping when he found me and this sparkle came out of his eyes like a friend who’d found another.  He waved and gave a delighted smile as I gave him a thumbs- up sign to let him know that their performance was smashing.  Caleb then started to boogie onstage, and boy, could he rev up the crowd- teasing the fans (and me) into a frenzied dance.  Pablo then started fooling around with some drums and all too soon, the party ended.

Anyway, the guys were great, como siempre, and the day closed wonderfully despite a little hiccup at the start. MDO is also gaining popularity surprisingly fast here as well, girls were screaming for them and snapping their shots.  What can I say?  They rock.
