18th May 2001, Friday

I called Alexis and asked if we could meet that day.  So he said sure, at about 1pm or so.  Needless to say, I was pretty excited, I mean I spoke to Alexis... I got my friend and we set off for the hotel in the morning because I was un poco worried that they would leave earlier.

So I reached and waited near the café for a while.  My friend tugged at me and went, ‘that looks like Pablo- the one wearing red.’  I took a 90-degree swerve and saw this Caucasian with a red shirt, his back facing me.  And I was deliberating if I should go because I wasn’t sure if it was he, but you know, the worst could only be me chatting up the wrong guy so I went forward, behind him and called his name.  And he turned around with this incredibly sunny grin and I got a hug and a kiss.  Ha-ha!

Well, by then I was quite nervous so I think I said something like I’m- your- fan- and- would- you- autograph- this- for- me kinda stuff.  Then I had to holler for my friend who just couldn’t believe my luck and I got a picture with Pablo and he was just incredibly friendly and all and I left, to avoid disturbing him.

But of course, he was so cute I had to disturb him otra vez.  I went in again and took two solo shots of him.  He was so adorable, he started to finger comb his hair when I was about to snap.  I told him he looked great just like that and he grinned again.  Then I started to converse with him in simple English and boy, did he chatter away.  Then he filled me in on where MDO was heading after Singapore… said that Singapore was beautiful and I asked him if he liked Scooby Doo and I got a resounding ‘Yes!’  He was also interested in the Chinese language… he went, ‘Say something in Chinese.’ ‘What do you want me to say?’ ‘Say that you like my singing or something like that.’ So I went, ‘Wo xi huan ting ni chang ge.’ And he smiled and nodded so I taught him ‘Soy Pablo’ in Chinese, which he picked up fast. You know, he was just endearing and really charming…  I couldn't resist giving him another hug before I left.

Anyway, meeting Pablo was muy muy fantastic (he's my fav MDO afterall) and I continued waiting for Alexis.  I think it was about two hours before I saw this tall striking guy walking towards my direction.  I just stared… he was gorgeous, and it was not till he smiled that I realised who he was.

‘Alexis?!’

‘Hi.’

I was still in a state of disbelief when he hugged me... my friend was quite speechless by then.  I took a picture with him and he signed my Subir Al Cielo and he left for his bus.

I was kinda lucky that day you know, to be able to meet the two of them and talk to Pablo over breakfast.  I even wrote him a postcard and the next day I saw him, he thanked me and I was pleasantly surprised.  I mean he is a big thing in Latin America and yet he bothers to remember me and all.  That was great.
